Locality
Braintree and Witham Times covers news around Braintree and Witham including areas surrounding the two towns such as Coggeshall. On top of that the publication covers North Essex news, South Essex news and National news. This week their coverage ranges from local areas such as Braintree with headlines like:

Catching up with an old place...
Third year... So here we go.
I'm going to be looking at the Braintree and Witham Times website. Why? Partly because it is in the 'spec' for my uni course and also I got that funny nostalgic feeling about my home town when I looked it up.
Wonderful.
As I scanned the website looking for information about the site, such as when it became an online feature (2006) and its online presence (we'll come to that later), I got distracted and checked out some of the articles. These mixed me with an array of emotions such as:
Fear-I had just learnt that a 23-year old male had been killed in a traffic accident not far from where I used to live, did I know the man? He was roughly my age... as I desperately scanned the article for more information I stopped panicking for a minute and started to think about some criticisms of journalism in different forms of media I had come across recently.
For example when Television News first appeared on the agenda, many thought it would not last and it took from the 1930s to 1960s for it to be considered serious. History is repeating itself with internet news, especially Blogging, but when I read this article I didn't even consider for a moment that it was not true. This is probably because it is a newspaper which I recognise and the logo reinforces this.
At first I thought that the publications target audience would only be the locals of Braintree and Witham, plus the surrounding areas, yet whilst I was reading it I realised that it is also targeted to those interested in what is happening in these areas. This could include relatives, friends or colleagues of people living in the area, as well as the residents them selves.
It is owned by Newsquest Media Group who also own: 'more than 200 newspapers, magazines and trade publications, including 17 paid-for dailies' .
